Nissan Auto Body Style Guide

Some people coast through life. At any given time, they know exactly what they want, whether it's a job, a significant other, a home, or their next new car. For the indecisive among us, it's more a matter of figuring it out (or making it up) as we go along. When a new job, a new kid, or a longer commute requires a new car, we need a little help finding the right body style and fit. If you're shopping for a new Nissan car, that's exactly what Mentor Nissan is here for.

New Nissan cars and SUVs come in many shapes and sizes, and our Nissan dealership has many of them in stock. Don't let those choices intimidate you. After all, they make it a lot easier finding something that's going to fit you -- your commute, your family, and your driving style -- like a glove. Here are the most popular body styles we carry.

Coupe

The Nissan 370Z is a coupe. You'll recognize a coupe by its two-door design, but also by a roof that slopes down gently from the front seat to the trunk of the car. That makes for a graceful design, but it doesn't leave much room for your back seat passengers, so a coupe isn't usually a great family car (though it's an awful lot of fun to drive).

Sedan

In place of the sloped roof seen in a coupe, a sedan like the 2017 Nissan Altima features four doors and a straighter roof over the front and back seats. If you're carrying family members or carpooling -- and especially if you've got a child seat in the back -- the easier access afforded by a sedan makes it a better commuter and family car.

Crossover

A crossover like the 2017 Nissan Murano puts an SUV-like design on a car-like body. Because it doesn't use body-on-frame construction like an SUV, it's lighter, more economical to operate, and drives more like a car than a truck. All that, but you don't have to sacrifice the advantages -- like capacity, rough-terrain drivability, and ride height -- that come with an SUV.

Hatchback

If you'd like more cargo space than a sedan but a smaller body than a crossover, a hatchback like the Nissan Versa Note or the unique Nissan Juke might be right up your alley. The lower ride gives sporty handling, and instead of a trunk you get a spacious cargo area in a form factor that's a lot less bulky.

It all makes a lot more sense now, doesn't it?
