A Closer Look at the 2018 Nissan Altima

2018 Nissan Altima

The Nissan Altima turned 25 this year. It enters the 2018 model year mostly offering car buyers more of the same features and specs, but still packs quite a punch. With some new features in the offing, the popular Nissan sedan — available now at Mentor Nissan — deserves a closer look if you’re in the market for a mid-sized car.

2018 Nissan Altima Details

Let’s start with what stays the same in the 2018 Nissan Altima. The same trim levels (2.5, 2.5 SR, 2.5 SV, 2.5 SL, 2.5 S, and the more powerful Nissan Altima 3.5 SR and 3.5 SL), power train, and front-wheel drive return from last year.

As you’d likely guessed from the trim level designations, there are two engines on offer. One is an economical but still peppy four-cylinder engine, while the other is a strong and capable V6 engine that provides more torque and horsepower. In either case, you’ll get great fuel economy — due in part to the shared Xtronic continuously variable transmission.

New for 2018

After holding steady in both prices and features, the Nissan Altima sees a very slight price bump for 2018. That’s more than balanced by some new standard features whose value — both in monetary and practical terms — far outweighs the dollar amount. All trims now have Intelligent Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking. The top tier 3.5 SL adds Android Auto® and Apple CarPlay® to an updated version of NissanConnect®, as well as tacking on Intelligent Cruise Control as a standard feature.

2018 Nissan Altima Safety

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the 2018 Nissan Altima their five-star safety rating. While more safety features are available on more trims this year, you’ll still need to opt for the upper trims to get the full complement of safety features.

Buying a 2018 Nissan Altima

This time last year, we advised our customers to buy the 2017 model instead of the identical 2016 model it replaced, mostly on the strength of future resale value. With new features in the mix, the decision’s even easier if you’re looking at a new Nissan car this year. If you live in the Mentor, OH area, come to Mentor Nissan for a test drive. We’re conveniently located at 6960 Center St, and we hope to see you soon.
